Recently we moved into a house, but prior to that we were living in a 2 bed/1 bath apartment. We moved in to the apartment December of 2008 and around May of 2009 we acquired Moogle. She was just a baby, but since my husband and I love cats, we had no problem with that. During the time we had her at the apartment we had to keep our bedroom door closed because if she was in there while we were sleeping, she would constantly wake us up throughout the night.
Obviously we couldn't let that continue for multiple reasons. One reason is that if I don't get good sleep, I become a mega-bitch. Another is the fact that my husband has to drive a half hour in the morning for work, and another half hour just to get home. He needs his sleep. The other reason is that it's annoying to be constantly woken up in the middle of the night.
Our original set up was this massive pile of boxes and blankets to prevent her from scratching at the door and carpet, but even then she would still manage to get through. Then we moved all of that stuff away and put a flattened cardboard box under the door, but the noise of her ripping the box still bothered us. Our last resort was when Chris, my husband, cut up one of those plastic floor mats used in offices to make sure chairs don't get caught up on the carpet. It was large enough to ensure that she couldn't get to the carpet, and it was a material that her claws couldn't get in to and shred. Perfecto!
Flash forward to us living in the house. Since there is more space, we figured it wouldn't be a big deal to leave the door to our bedroom open because Moogs would have other places to be in. Wrong! The first day she stayed under our bed, mostly due to the fact that she was scared. The second day she was starting to be her old self. Running all over the place, using her paws to open the drawers on our dresser, and getting into the closet to move the hangers around.
This morning was probably the worst. Around 6:30 I was woken up to her jumping on the bed, scurrying around, jumping back on to the floor, and repeating that sequence over and over again. I just thought she was being annoying, but when discussing the incident with Chris a few hours ago over IM, I found out otherwise. Turns out she was jumping on to the bed, attacking either his hands or feet using her claws and teeth, and then jumping away only to return and attack something else. Of course I got a laugh out of it, but he didn't seem too amused which is understandable. The only thing I can think of is that Moogs wanted some attention and thought it was a perfectly fine time to initiate a play session.
Needless to say, around 6:48 Moogle was tossed out of the bedroom, our trusty plastic mat was thrown onto the ground, and the door was closed.
Thanks Moogs!
